Hello. My name is Naomi Savage. I am a photographer from Northern Ireland. In my spare time I enjoy capturing waterfalls & landscapes.
I gained a lot of photography experience working alongside Martin Tohill with Eclipse Event Photos, photographing Irish Dancing Championships. I then went on to gain further experience with Phil Smyth working for his business JPB Events, shooting family portraits within the Belfast Zoo. I previously worked for Opus Memories and I absolutely loved the experience that I gained from becoming a school photographer. Now I am out on my own looking forward to creating and building my very own photography studio.
I have a Degree in Graphic Design, An A in Level 3 Photography and a Distinction in Level 2 Photography. I have many years experience photographing events in the music industry in Northern Ireland. This of course began by being a musician myself. I started off gigging, recording, writing and playing music in bands as well as solo. I met a lot of talented musicians along the way and that's where my love for photography grew & developed. I now enjoy exploring the outdoors, especially as I live close-by to the Mourne Mountains.
Thank you for stopping by!
TREK NI FEATURE
It’s time to hear from another of our fantastic calendar photographers, Naomi Savage, whose super-autumnal image captured in Tollymore represents the month of October.
Here’s what Naomi had to say about the location…
“What I love most about Tollymore is the sound of the rivers and waterfalls. It offers such tranquillity and peace as well as opportunities for outdoor photography. Foleys Bridge during autumn is one of the most magical moments for the study of the changing landscape. I absolutely love it. I enjoyed being to capture the coloured leaves with the bridge to the left and the trees to the right. The correct exposure to capture the perfect flow of the shimna river helped to finalize my chosen composition and bring everything together."
And Naomi's top landscape photography tip?
"A tripod and polariser are essential for these kinds of landscape captures. You need the tripod to slow down the water and a polariser to control your orange and yellow tones in the leaves as well as the reflections. Shoot in raw and use manual. Enjoy the learning curve. Read books, join your local library, watch YouTube videos and buy a few photography magazines. Learn from other photographers and maybe even consider joining up to night classes. Find out what interests you the most and what you enjoy photographing and editing. Editing is my least enjoyable process of photography but it is an essential tool you'll need to master. Subtly is key and less is more; but the only way to really learn this is to experiment and max out your photos and then print them to see what your dark tones really look like. That will help you with your editing."
